Nestled in the tranquil hills of Cedar Mill, OR, this 8’ x 16’ sauna embodies harmony with nature and exceptional craftsmanship. Divided into two equal spaces—a sauna and a changing room—this custom build is a sanctuary of relaxation, surrounded by the mature cedar trees that define its environment.

The sauna interior is crafted entirely from clear vertical grain Western Red Cedar, creating a warm and aromatic haven. Two large insulated windows frame breathtaking views of the surrounding forest, seamlessly blending the indoor and outdoor experience. At its center is the heart of the sauna: a stunning 12kW HUUM Hive heater, capable of holding over 500 pounds of granite stones. This powerful heater offers precise, Wi-Fi-enabled temperature controls for a truly customizable experience. Dual-level benches, supported by steel framing, feature recessed lighting in the backrests and beneath the seats, gently illuminating the walls, ceiling, and floor with a soft, inviting glow. Spacious enough to comfortably accommodate 4–6 guests, the sauna is designed for shared relaxation or solitary retreats. Adjustable ventilation ensures a consistently comfortable atmosphere, while a floor drain system helps maintain a pristine and low-maintenance space.

The adjoining changing room is a staple of traditional Nordic sauna designs, and we were delighted to incorporate this feature for our customer. This space was thoughtfully designed to enhance both functionality and comfort. A custom concrete shower with adjustable temperature controls sits beneath a large skylight, bathing the room in natural light. A cedar resting bench offers a cozy spot to unwind after a sauna session. The ambiance is further elevated by dimmable overhead lighting and integrated speakers, creating a serene and welcoming environment.

The exterior is designed to harmonize with its natural surroundings while ensuring durability against the elements. A standing seam metal roof provides long-lasting protection, and gutters were intentionally omitted in favor of a foundation perimeter equipped with French drains to effectively manage water runoff. Weatherproofed tight knot cedar tongue-and-groove siding enhances the rustic aesthetic, while Yakasugi-treated facia and barn door accents add timeless character that complements the serene forested setting.
